I connected a standalone dvd player to my pc by using composite rca cables that go into an all-in-wonder video card. I am able to watch dvd's on the computer monitor. But when I try to record it to hard disk, the video is no good (sound is good).

I assume this is some form of copy protection. Is there ripping software that would work under these circumstances, or do they only work with DVD-ROM?

    Thanks for any help.

  2. You can't rip from a set top player. The output is analog.

  3. 1) you wouldn't be "ripping", you would be "capturing"

    2) as thayne pointed out, capturing is analog, so it will never be able to achieve the same quality as ripping, which is purely digital

    3) unless your dvd player can disable macrovision, it will not allow you to make analog copies.

  4. I believe that any capture device that will copy a protected VCR tape will also copy from your DVD player. I could be wrong but I believe that. ........ harrymj3
