Tompika,
You may or may not also be aware that the V1.64 firmware allows for Media information on +R/RW when blank. This is possible with the "yet to be released" version of DVDinfo. There are links on this site to DVDinfo. I have trialled the Beta version of DVDinfo and can tell you it definately works in conjunction with MP5125 V1.64. No need to burn first to check media manufacturer!
Maybe email NicW and ask to get a beta version for testing on the Memorex.

Tompika,
Since you now have DVDinfo Pro version now you might like to scan some of your burned discs to see the File system version they have been burned with (UDF - 1.02, ISO etc). Compare an original DVD-Video to see the difference.
DVDinfo Pro also avails the users of Ricoh MP5240 the same scanning abilities of blank discs. It is the definitive DVD scanning tool and I strongly reccommend it to all who frequent this forum and others. Please donate to NicW for his efforts, to show your appreciation.

I have my Memorex drive in a firewire case. Can I run the firmware update as is, or do I need to put it back onto the IDE bus?
Does this update actually make the drive write at 4X, or is it just compatable with 4X media? -
You can't make the drive burn faster.
The update makes it more compatible with new medias and gives better writing strategy.
Memorex has not released the 1.64 yet.
But the 1.51 worked pretty good for me, I suggest you get the rpc1 1.51
I also have external drive firewire (and USB2).
I'm able to flash through firewire.

Tompika,
Ozwegia is the fabled land down under. Just an abstract of Australia, commonly known as The Land of Oz or in my interpretation Ozwegia. Then again a Seppo would have struggled with the concept I suppose.
So, what the hell is a Seppo? (This is not a derogatory term, please don't be offended!!) OK quick course in Australian slang. During WW2 many American soldiers were based in or near Australia, plenty of their leave time was spent here. They were commonly referred to here as Yanks. We also have a quaint habit of making up rhyming slang for commonly used words (similar to the Pommies (those from Great Britain)). So a US serviceman could be called a Yank or a Septic Tank...you get it Septic Tank...Yank ...OK. (PS a septic tank is a vessel in the ground which is used to decompose home waste water including toilet waste...ummm that's not real nice is it?).
Extend the slangism to the next level and Septic Tank becomes ......Seppo.. Hence I am hinting that you are from the good old US of A....OK.. :P
