  1. I just bought a dvd rewriter bundled with Nero 5.5 ..... Does this encode avi's to mpeg-2?

I have tried TMPGenc but it only seems to give the option for mpeg-1, which isnt good enough for what i want. Plus the fact that it says that the file I am encoding is way too big .. even though it isnt!

I am getting more & more confused with each day ..... any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Okay, yes nero can encode avi's to mpeg-2 but you have to have the mpeg2 plugin for nero ($) and the results will suck b/c nero is not a good converter.

TMPGenc is a excellent converter but if u want to encode to mpeg2 you will have to get the full version ($40 i think) the free version only allows mpeg-1.

a free mpeg2 encoder is bbmpeg, you may give that a shot if your looking to not spend money.

  3. As treebeard has said Nero is useless for encoding, TMPGEnc is well worth a $40 investment.
