i need to put some subtitles onto an avi movie.i have followed the tutorials using virtual dub and vob sub.only problem is virtual dub does not detect the vob sub plugin......im not sure if i have to convert the AVI file to another format.(i have a .sub file that i want use).....any ideas

It depends on which version of VobSub you have. Version 2.18 has the filter, 2.23 does not. Go figure.

install vobsub again, 2.23 DOES have the plugin, you just need to SELECT to install it.
you need to press the plugins option while you install, and select the virtualdub plugin.
point it to the virtualdub folder and it will install the plugin.
and you might as well install the textsub plugin.

it might get stuck on your screen after installation, so just kill the app.HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE -
you could convert the .sub to .ssa with subtitleworkshop, and then use virtualdub's subtitler plugin (available on it's webpage) to add the subtitles.
