  1. I've noticed on some newsgroups that there are movies available but they are split into several different files. How do you download and put these together? When you look at the files with your reader, they just look like a bunch of garbage characters. Any help appreciated.

  2. You'll need a newsreader specifically capable of handling binary newsgroup postings. I would recommend Xnews or Newsbin Pro. Both of these will pull down the mult-section rar parts, decode them, into the base rar pieces and throw away the temp files.

Then, you'll need WinRAR (or whatever for your O/S), and extract the files from the multi-piece rar files (multi piece means that there is a filename.rar and subsequenct filename.rxx where xx is a number from 00 to 99... after 99, then it changes to sxx, then txx, etc).

If there is an sfv file, download quicksfv. This will confirm that the individual rar pieces downloaded and decoded correctly. If they fail the sfv check, you know which parts to redownload.

Get an account on a commercial newsserver like Giganews, EasyNews, Newscene, Airnews, Supernews, etc. They general have longer retention and better speeds than the one your ISP carries.

  4. Skirk, get a binary newsreader like Agent, Newsgrabber or Newsbin. They will combind all the parts into useable files so you can un-rar them later.

And if you're on a Windows machine, you can always use Outlook Express... which is what I use.
