    Just bought this damn thing and it seems it wont play back any CD-R Disks audio / VCD I have tried writing them in strict VCD format at 1X write speed still says it wont play ball.

    Any suggestions, or a recommendation for a DVD player that will play near enough what ever it is given.....

    Get a Sampo DVE620. Mine works great for DVD, VCD, SVCD, MP3. CD-R and CD-RW.

    silenttalk, did u check the dvd player list on vcdhelp.com?
    they list which dvd players r compatible with which format...check to c if other ppl with your dvd player can play the different formats
