  1. My burner (Sony DRU-500A) Is having a few problems. It is making strange clicks when reading or writing a disc, and although it gets through most of the disc, it never finishes, always with an error.

Does anyone know what could be the problem with my burner?

I will reproduce the error to get the exact wording if that would be a help.

    Thanks in advance for help!

Maybe a bad servo? Have you called Sony? It takes a while to get through, but in my experiences in calling them, and that's all I have to go on, they were pretty helpful.

Can you burn a CD or does that crap out too. Can you rip the DVD, ( I assume that's the issue) in another machine with a DVD? Are you using the Sony to ripa s well as burn, maybe it burnt out?

    Sorry that's not too helpful.

    Good luck.

  4. Ok, I will give sony a call.

It happens with everything, be it reading a cd, reading a dvd, burning a cd, or burning a dvd.

The weird thing is, I have had the drive for over 5 months and this just started happening about a week ago, and I havent moved the pc or done anything to it.

  6. i know this is an old forum but i found it with a y! search.... i'm curious what the resolution was, if any. my DRU-500A does the same thing. it makes a loud clicking noise when reading/recording/identifying discs right after insertion. this doesn't always happen, and even when it happens during record, 90% of the discs still burn properly. let me know if you had any luck solving it on your own or by sending to sony. mine is out of warranty ... thanks.
