  1. How do i select the correct aspect ratio for my divx files. Like if I encode to MPEG2 at 352x480, I can select it to display at 4:3 aspect ratio correctly. How do I do that with Divx?

I use virtual dub to convert. Do I need another program to do this?

The display aspect ratio of divx is 1:1. This is fixed and cannot be changed. If you want your movie to appear with a certain aspect ratio, you have to calculate the resoltion (horiz vs vertical) that will do that.

Eg 640*480 = 4:3. (and lots of other combinations too!).

    Hope this helps

If you download the Divx player, you can adjust the aspect ratio of Divx encoded files. I haven't used it in a while, but it's easy enough to find. You can encode to something like 352X480 and set the aspect ratio to playback as 1:1, 4:3, or 16:9.

Not really fixing the aspect ratio, but it does provide a workaround.

  4. Oh well. I figured I could compress more video into my dvd if I could change the aspect ratio.
