  1. I just got my Sony DW-U10A (1.1d). I also purchased Memorex 4x DVD+R media. There is a warning on the box to upgrade the firmware of your 2.4x drive or the written data could be corrupted, even if writing DVD+R slower than 2.4x. Does this aply to the DW-U10A (which writes DVD+R at 2.4x)?

If so, I guess I have to flash it to the DRU-500A and then flash it to 2.0f. However, if I want to go back to the DW-U10A, the firmware patch I have found is only 1.1c.

Or perhaps another solution is to stick to DVD-R medium which is cheaper anyway and faster (4x) anyway.

Can anyone give me any input and/or pros and cons?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. The warning is for Ricoh MP5125 based drives with firmware version <1.51. Your drive should burn them just fine. However to be able to burn them in 4x I think you'll need to flash your drive with the DRU-500A firmware. If you want to go back for some reason there is a 1.1e firmware version of the DW-U10A @the firmware page.
