I have a complete tv series in mpg format - I have watched all of them but would like to keep them for future enjoyment. However, each episode takes up a whole disk - is there any easy way I can compress the files to fit more than one on per disk?? Please keep replies REALLY simple as I am rather new to this game.

Which MPEG format are they in? MPEG1, MPEG2? What are the resolutions? When you say each episode takes up a whole disk, do you mean CD, or DVD?

Well if all youre intrested is in storage (not watching them on a TV), then I suggest DivX.
A guide to DivX conversion can be found at https://www.videohelp.com/avi2divx.htm
VCD to DivX at http://www.doom9.org/mpg/vcd2divx.htm
or if its an SVCD, try http://www.doom9.org/svcd2divx.htm
