  1. I work for Wal-Mart and we just started carrying a piece of software called

    "DVD Ripper" by Cosmi

    It retails for $9.96 (US)
(on the back it has a disclaimer : Not intended to create illegal backups of
Commercial DVDs - Check your local Laws)

For Newbies: Go try it if you want easy SVCD, VCD, Divx versions
(I haven't tried it myself, but for ten dollars I'm sure someone will buy it)

    But...remember the above :
    NO ILLEGAL COPYING

    (Watch out MPAA)

Yeah but you can do the same things with freeware in alot of cases, or next to free with reliable tools. Still it might be worth checking out I guess....

  3. Exactly!!! I have a mix of freeware -> $100 programs that I use.

However I aimed it at newbies because it appears to have an interface that would be strait forward encompassing all aspects onto a few screens.

(i.e. Select you format - How many discs - and go!)

I just figured they should know......I also found it interesting that the retailer with the most leaniant return policies (at least were I work - They just took back a TV from Sept 2001!!!!) would carry this kind of product!!!

I'm just waiting for the slow increase in "defective" DVDs that will be heading my way.

  4. just a heads up to folks, because i read this thread (and another at this site) before i bought the software, didn't read anything from anyone who had actually tried it (which would have probably been negative), so i bought it.

the only thing this software rips is the folks that buy it. it just doesn't do what you'd think it would do reading the package.

both of your drives (dvd player and a cd-r/rw) have to be internal.

AND it won't copy copyrighted material that's been hardcoded (virtually every new dvd) or take macrovision out.

I wonder how much Grim-Ripper got paid to advertise the store and the software. Why buy the crap if u can get better software for free?
