i renamed it as a .mpg but it still reconized as an avi when gspot displays its an mpeg
Im totally confused -
It is probibly a "DivX ;-) MPEG-4" which is an avi. Do you have a DivX decoder codec on your pc?

what like divx 5.03 codec or whatever?
Is there something else i need? -
I think that is all you need. If it still won't play then my guess must have been wrong.

my avi file plays in windows media player but gspot reconizes it as an mpeg, avi2wav says its not an avi and so does this joiner program i was using

when you told me to rename it as .mpg i did. But normally when i have an mpeg windows displays that its an mpeg like in details on the side itll have the name of the movie, display that its a movie file (mpeg) not video clip and then the last time it was modified etc. but after i rename it, it still displays its a video clip and not a movie file (mpeg)

Hmmm, I suppose there is a possibility that it is an mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 encoded video (and audio) inside an avi wrapper. Such strange beasts do exists though I personally have never seen one. Why people would want ot make them escapes me too.
Not sure this would work but you can try it anyway.
Start TmpGenc and select file->Mpeg tools, select simple de-multiplex. Select your strange file as the input. TmpGenc might barf here but if not this should work. Then select two output files (TmpGenc should fill the boxes in for you) and hit start.
Whne it has complete, select simple-multiplex and re-join the files into a proper mpeg.
Good Luck. -
as a last ditch effort you could d\l graphedit (check in tool section) open thru file--> render media and see what the filter manager brings up ie, what filter are being used to render the file
Good luck!"The software said Win XP or better, so I Installed Linux" -
YESSSSSS! It worked, THANK YOU! im so pleased, hehe i was really starting to get annoyed but now ive done it, well youve done it
Thank you! -
BAH!!, when i multiplex the second part of the movie, bout half way through it comes up with a message saysing "1 s packets cause buffer underflow, the MPEG file might cause error when it played."
Whats this mean, can i fix this problem? -

When i multiplex the second part in mpeg1 format the error message comes up near the end and the file size seems around the same then the original. The only thing that worries me is that when i skip through the movie on the first part it keeps playing straight away but on the second the video freezes from the scene i skipped from and the audio starts in the new part i selected.
