Ive encoded heaps of avi's into mpeg before and never come accross this problem before.
I open avi2wav to create a .wav file for my avi and attemp to open my avi and get this error message "File blah.avi not AVI!" Blah is the location and name of the file.
So i decided to try create the wav file with virtual dub. There are two parts of the movie involved in this operation and when i open both with virtual dub the mpeg import filter appears and displays that its parsing VideoCD Stream.
I can create a wav file with the first part, but with the second, the mpeg import filter appears like the first part except about half way through an error message appears saying "MPEG Import Filter: packet sync error on packet stream (12fee164)"
I dont know whats going on so if anyone does could you please help solve my problem

    Thanx.

Sounds like you may have a .mpg file RENAMED to a .avi file. Have you tried using TMPGenc to de-multiplex the audio?

Please, download the MPEG-2 mod of Virtual Dub. It gets rid of the "MPEG Import Filter: packet sync error" error.

  11. go get g-spot i tell you. it will tell you everything you need to know about the file you have and what you need to encode it properlly. when you get the right codec, it will tell you codec is installed. when you don't have the right codec, it will say its missing codecs and is playing on winn media player via direct draw. if this is the case , you will be able to play it but not encode it. but when you go get the codec it says to, you will be able to encode it with no problem. try it.
