  1. anyone got any ideas how to convert flash animations to mpg or avi ?

    Yes! I have successfully done it using RAD Tools.
    You can use it to convert your .SWF file to an .AVI , then reconvert to MPEG. It is freeware, and can be found here:

    http://www.radgametools.com/down/bink/radtools.exe

    its pretty straightforward to use it. -
    it makes for cool VCD\SVCD intros

    Did you get RAD Video Tools to convert SWF -> AVI *with sound*? Or it does Video only?

    Now that you mention it - i think i just converted the video portion with RAD and used TOTAL RECORDER for the audio...then encoded/muxed in TMPEG.
    You may have to try a few trick to sync sound, it depends on your source i guess. TMPEG is pretty good about changing framerates and keeping up sync. I havent had that problem though.

    Here's the best method:
    1. Create your movie in flash
    2. Go to File>Export Movie
    3. Under save as type choose Windows Avi
    4. Convert the avi to mpeg in TMPGEnc
