Indeed, as you have 100 cents to the dollar we have 100 pence to the pound.

Unfortunately, I'm familiar with neither of those vehicles...

However, you would be surprised. I would prefer my car to be turned into a crumbled mess (and myself in it pretty much okay) rather than my tank like car to have a scratch and me turning into a crumbled mess... Though it may depend on how much you love your car...

In terms of the standard tests (e.g., vehicle driving into brick wall at 60 kph or vehicle getting T-boned), I don't think SUVs do particularly well (indeed, your standard sedan is MUCH better). This is not to mention the risk of roll-over accidents with SUVs which almost never happen in a sedan.

Hey Doggiedaddy, That's a nice bike man. Is that / was that your bike. I'm guessing late 80's - early 90's Low Rider or possably Super Glide. Am I Right? I know it has the EVO 1340 cc motor, unless you mad it bigger. Anyway it's very cool!

I used to have an 86 Low Rider, but it was all stock. It's nice to know there are other Motorcyclist on this site.

The Mustang is my #1 hated car. I see too many of them, and everyone I know that has one thinks that it is a drag racer.

  21. I think the Mustang is a beautiful car, I am talking about 60's and 70's models here not the modern ones. And the GT350, oohh yes please. Perhaps you are spoilt over in the US TGPO, we just don't have cars like that over here.

A freind of mine does has a 65 and it's pretty sweet, but from the 70-now I just don't like em'. My dream car would have to be the Panoz Roadster, or the brand new Morgan!! WOW!!! I guess I don't like a lot of American cars, except for the Panoz!!

All y'all over in the UK had all the cool Subaru models like the 22B, RB5, P1, etc.. but now we've got the turbo 2.5 liter 300bhp STi over here in the States; so neener neener

The one thing you Brits do still have over us in the US is that you have really cool Ford models we never got over here. Such models include the Focus RS, Mondeo, and my favorite, the Cosworth Escorts and Sierras. Man would I love to have one of those, it would be the ultimate sleeper over here where the Escort was an economy vehicle.

I've driven a Stealth R/T twin turbo and really liked it. Isn't the ES the base V6? Did they make those RWD at least? I'm a bigger fan of the twin turbo AWD Stealth, but then again I've only ever owned AWD cars.

What really sucks is that most cars are downgraded when they enter the US. Some really sweet imports are turned into crappy sedans when they come over here. One example that comes to my head is the Lancer, while still a nice car it's not even close to being as sweet as the foreign versions.

Absolutely! I could watch the chase seen in Bullit over and over again.

Did you vote for the Mustang in the Top Gear poll?

Try swerving hard (to avoid a kid running out infront of you, say) at 50mpg in an SUV and see if your still upright afterwards. A high centre of gravity means you're more at risk of toppling over if you turn too suddenly at speed.

Too true. I alway feel like I'm about to fall to my death in a SUV. I personally don't like em' and hope I never have to drive one. I'll stick to sports cars.

Well, for the past two summers, I've done a 2 week fly drive in the US (New England 2001, Great Lakes 2002). Had an SUV on both occasions (Chevy Blazer) and will probably get another one this summer unless there's a good convertible available (like the Mustang from Avis).

EDIT - sorry, in two parts, 3 phones going:

They're really great if you've got a lot of stuff to take with you or are living in your car (driving for about 6-8 hours a day). And people move out of the way in cities - out in the sticks is a different matter: I thought the sky turned black and an earthquake was happening when a Dodge Ram pulled up next to us at the lights!

EDIT2 - a pic of me with our Blazer and a Ford something or other:

    Regards,

    Rob

Thanks, unfortunately its not just as nice now with a few scraps here and there. It was registered in January 1997 and has about 36,000 miles on the clock. Cost new was £18,000 but I bought it secondhand at 2.5 years old for £8,000. It's a 2.1 turbo diesel which does 43 miles to the gallon (UK gallon that is). Incidently the BBC use 406's as crew cars.
