Hi all,
just a quick question. I created a DVD of our holidays and put it on to play - when I took it out about 20 mins later I thought it smelt a little as if something was burning. I also noticed that the DVD mechanism seemed noiser than the commericial DVDs I own.
Is this usual ?
Is it anything to worry about ?

I guess I am on my own here, which worries me as I am sure I can smell burning

after 20-40 or so straight hours of burning dvd's in a duplicator - it gets pretty warm , but ive never smelling it burning ...
but it is a laser certainly able to burn -- maybe there is a bug or dust in there that was burning .. -
FWIW I used some printable media and then never got that warm or gave off a smell either when recording or playing.
Having said that I have a 3 disk changer Apex that always has a burnt smell when the tray is open since new (maybe Nov. 2002). I've decided it is the electronics in it in some way. I do turn it off at the front panel power button and that removes the power totally (Same with my Sony). I'm guessing some sort of outgassing as it is getting weaker.
I gave up worrying about it to be honest. Could it be that the smell is the player in your case and you just noticed it because you are wondering or worrying about the printable media and thus noticed it?
Good Luck

maybe someone put some bacon and eggs in there on the assembly line.
