  1. We all know the Terapin unit can do DVD to VCD in realtime. Is there a software we can use in our computer to do DVD to VCD in realtime?

    Thanks for the help.

I don't know If it works real time from a FILE bu NEO DVD PLUS 5.0 will do this
    http://www.mediostream.com/products/index.html

but If you are capturing VIDEO (Just Like Terrapin only you use your PC)

This will make a VCD in realtime

I've personally only used it to create a DVD in real time

(INSTEAD of going dirct to the DVD-R tho' I chickened out and went to the HARD DRIVE..it worked very well for a 5million bit rate, not so well higher than that..but a VCD is much less difficult to acheive!)

  3. I have version 4 of neo, I will check to see if that would the trick.

  4. Terapin is basically a capture device...

so, basically...you can get a capture card and do the same thing on your comp...

however, the quality will never be as good as encoding directly from the source DVD

    YES IT WILL
considering the poster asked for VCD and REALTIME
this doesn't matter cause the quality he can get at best from VCD will be
no better than the captured DVD...and the capture card solution you mention is only half the ticket..As I said above,
the poster requested a real time option..
Don't know of a specific card that does this, but if the NEO PLUS software works with your capture card and you have a gig of processor speed...then the real time is possible

the comment would have been right if the person wanted a DVD of a DVD

  6. dcsos,

i'm not exactly sure what you're getting at....yes, tienquang2 wanted DVD to VCD in real time...hence, the capture card..

however, i'm just pointing out that capture quality is never going to be as good as encoding directly from the source DVD....no matter what the output file is going to be VCD, SVCD, DVD, etc....

of course, since VCD is encoded at low bitrate the quality difference may not be too noticeable, since either capturing or directly encoding from the source, most of the info is lost in VCD's low bitrate. nonetheless, capturing will never achieve the same quality as working directly with the VOBs themselves.

Point Taken..ok it'd be a little better to crunch the VOBs directly
