Are you using the latest version of TMPGEnc?

  5. I'm using 2.5 I don't know if it the knew version or not. When it crashes it includes different files in the report every time and it reports that the program encountered a problem and must shut down. It encoded a movie once after i reinstalled it the first time but now it always crashes even if reinstalled.

Look in the Help-->About menu. Then go to the web site and download the newest version. I remember unexplained crashes in the program some time ago, but they mysteriously vanished when I upgraded.

  9. AVI trash? Do you say that its avi files you are having problems with? If you said that at once i could have told you that i had the same problem with AVI files using DivX3. Converting to DivX4 solved the problem for me.

I think so. If vdub crashes then the file has some serious problems. You can try editting the video manually to get rid of the bad frames but it will be a bit of trial and error and hopefully it's not too bad. Check the "Edit" section for editting with Vdub.

  12. Remember that AVI files need to be TYPE-2 for TMPGEnc to process it.

Type-1 AVI files will cause random point crashes. Also make sure your hard drive is healthy (no FAT problems or corruption).

I've had success with Type-1, but I have to make internal adjustments in TMPGEnc
