  1. hello and thanks to the owners for such a helpful site.

i am looking for program suggestions that could replace use of Fraps ( www.fraps.com ) for recording a running video game. the drawbacks of this program are that it has a very small max resolution that it captures in and that (to a lesser degree) its capture output AVI file is uncompressed and uses a huge amount of disk space. disk usage i assume cannot be avoided as i presume encoding/compressing on the fly would take too much CPU.

are there other programs available that you guys know of that i could try that would enable the capture to HDD of a running full-screen app like a game and allow for recording stop/start via hotkeys while playing given that the game will have its own key bindings etc.

any program suggestions are much appreciated.
