  3. Ive made lots of DVDs that play ok on PS2. I use DVD decrypter/Nero/DVD2One n use mainly Datawrite Yellows n they r ok on a PS2. It can be a bit picky about certain types of media though.

  4. I use Accus on a Sony 500 & these work great. Of course, sony also makes ps2's so great match. try writing at 1x.

  6. I beleive there are now 7(?) versions of the PS2. One of my friends has a 2nd generation model that wont play anything, while my roommates (6th gen) will play the same discs. The newer the system is the better your odds.

  7. I use unbranded DVD-R media that work fine on my ps2 and are written at 4x. I have one of the newest versions of the ps2 that supports DVD-R though.

I have had the same problem with jerkiness you talked about with your other dvd player and i think it seems to either be a problem with the "insert I picture" setting in TMPGEnc or transcoding closed GOP's. I have managed to overcome this problem but if someone could enlighten me to the actual fault for this i would be very grateful.

'Pixel': How did you manage to overcome the Jerkiness?

  9. I don't know if it happens when you transcode from DVD or from when you capture. I got rid of it by capturing in mpeg2 and capturing in only i-frames and then in TMPGEnc i re-encoded with closed GOP's.

This seemed to solve the problem.

BTW: The jerkiness i got was on my ps2 only and I use Lordsmurf's capture guide:

  10. Sorry, forget my last post. I got your problem mixed up with another problem I had been having where at the beginning the movie stopped and started and stopped and started for a minute or so and played fine after that. I think I have the right answer below.

There is 2 possible reasons for your problem so I will post the answer to both.

#1. Swapped frames. (Movie plays fine on PC, but is not displayed properly on TV)
Your capture card (especially if it is ATI) may need to have the frames of the video swapped after it has been captured. To do this use TMPGEnc, and in the source settings choose "Interlace" and "Field Order A".

If that does not work this may solve it:

#2. Short GOPs (Picture is slightly jerky at regular intervals on your PC and TV)
You are using short GOP's which can cause jerkiness, especially at high motion. Try using this bitrate and GOP calc:

I hope one of these solves your problem.
