Well I just purchased a DVD-R drive and I was wondering if most DVD and other system are going to switch over to DVD+R? Why do we need to differnt DVD disks and Burning Drives?

I read all that stuff because I too had questions just like you, but I found the most of the answers by looking, searching, Google'ing, and reading.
As far as your question, there is a pretty cool link over there on the left tittled "DVD Players". It is a database of lots of DVD players and what format they support. And you can also go to your local Electronics/Computer store and look at the box of DVD players and a lot of them now tell you what they are compatible with. -
Guys... I really need some help here, I can't decide if I should be Pro-Life or Pro-Choice, could someone please point me in the right direction. And make it very clear why which one is better than the other, thanks!
Oh.. btw, Democrat/Republican??? I need help there too. -
Plus = Positive side of LIFE
Minus= Negative, bad
This is just an educated guess from a PIONEER A03 owner
who recently added a Sony 500 to see rosier colors out there -

I say buy the dual format burner also, and never have to worry about which format will die. All you have to worry about is which media is on sale and cheaper. One thing that I have noticed is that the +R format seems to be faster becuase it doesn't need to finalize disks like the -R format. And also, the +R technology seems to be moving much faster compared to -R (4X speeds came out on the +R first and also +RW disks are already 4X with +RW, while -RW is still only maxed out at 2X). Plextor is already releasing an 8X drive for the +R format, while the -R format is only 4X speed maximum.
The Plextor is going to be released sometime in August and it's a dual format, so just wait for that. You'll have the faster speed of the +R format, but also have the -R also. -
Buy the pioneer AO6 it's the best drive sony drive suck. For me I like DVD-R better. I would only burn DVD+R if I could not get my hand's on any DVD-R DVD-R is a real format by the http://www.dvdforum.com/forum.shtml if you look at DVD+R disc they do not have the nice DVD logo. so please read
http://www.dvdforum.com/forum.shtml -
i remember a time when a question like this would have started a war. At least people are beginng to act civil about the subject. I think both formats are here to stay. I dont think one is better htan the other, i prefer dvd-r though, just because. No reason really.

dcos, I'm very sorry that you had so much trouble with your Pioneer burner, but you really don't need to keep putting it down so. There are PLENTY of satisfied Pioneer customers on this site that can attest to that.
I am glad that you are now happily burning again.
I like DVD-R 'cuz I don't like DVD+R's logo as much.8)

Well to say I didn't really read all of the posts in this thread would be accurate. But here goes....
I'm in the DVD-RAM camp! So take that!

As long as it is a flame war

Alright. You asked for it.
Time to bring in the big guns.
Maybe some laser warfare.
And finally, a little bomb-dropping action, just to be sure.
Mine's better than yours... of course, I don't remember what we're talking about anymore. VHS vs Beta, right? Or was it horseless carriage vs automobiles? Hmm... ah well, who cares?I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -
U-matic vs S-vhs I think it was. Some kind of format wars anyway...
If I had more ambition, I'd send a whole bunch of pictures your way. But that would require going and getting a picture host, and I'm too lazy right now. Maybe later. But I'll send one more if it fits....

As of the moment for home use, both the - and + drives are pretty good.
Be happy in whatever you bought.
As to why there are two systems, the answer is MONEY.
Please let this not degenerate into another flamewar. I don't want to have to moderate any further BS threads on why + is better than - because of such and such BS technical reason or why + sucks because Philips is an evil evil company run by the Dutch (), etc.
