  1. I know what ac3 is, but when you seperate the audio and video with VirtualDub, you need to change the ac3 file to a wav with headac3he, or something like that. If you then used TMPGEnc to convert everything to an mpeg so you can burn as a vcd, what would be the point of ever having the ac3? Aren't you still going to lose the surround sound aspect of the ac3? Is it just going to be a better sounding vcd or what?

I guess what I'm really wondering is, can you create a vcd that still has Dolby Digital Surround?

No. VCD does not support dolby digital.

The point of a divx with Ac3 is for use on a PC.

  4. I believe that having an avi with ac3 audio allows for more flexability. That way everyone can get the best quality out of the files. Those who want to make dvds, and it allows those who want to make vcds a better quality file to convert from.
