i have downloaded a full length movie in Avi format when i try to burn it to dvd+r disc it tells me that the file is over by almost 3 gigs I am using a phillips dvd+r writer and Sonic MyDVd software supported on XP can anyone please point me in the right direction?

yep, encode to DVD compliant mpeg2 using something other than MyDvd. Then also use a different authoring program. The problem is MyDvd converts all audio to uncompressed PCM which takes up LOADS of disc space, leaving much less for the video. Look to the convert and authoring guides for help.
