  1. Hi,

I am having problems with 2 films. Biker Boyz and also 25th Hour. They will not play in my usual players. I use Real One Player, Windows Media player, also DivX player but it wont work in there its an XVid file. I got that from G Spot also the fact that it is AC3 sound codec. Both of which i have installed and G Spot confirms this. G Spot believes it to be a file of perfect length, XVid and AC3 codecs all of which are installed.

They do not crash, they dont stutter, the screen just stays black no sound and the players say playing but remain at 0seconds. This is really weird never come across this before.

I wasnt planning on watching them on the computer anyway, i was trying to convert them when i discovered a problem. I was using TmpgEnc and usual wizard way selecting the video file and it adds the sound file too, most cases its the same file for video and sound.

However for these 2 films the sound file is left blank, carried on anyway to see if it will work anyway. Set it all up, start converting, and it stops at 0% no preview. I would say yes its crashed cause i know TmpgEnc does that sometimes but i cant explain why but it was different, it didnt really freeze. It kind of links in to the problem i had with the players.

I remember ages and ages ago i had to do something along the lines of extracting the AC3 file into wav format and use that, but will it work bearing in mind that it wont even play??? Also it was a long time ago and i have totally forgotten how so any help on that would be great.

Any help would be great, if you have these films and found a way to play please let me know. I cant see it being a file error because it has happend to 2 films, 4 files (as they are already split in half).

Thanks for all that had the patience to read this far.

  2. Go to www.digital-digest.com and in the software section under codecs download the latest xvid codec and install that. On the same page under support tools download the avi 4cc changer. If the new xvid codec doesn't solve your problem then try the old 4cc trick. Open the 4cc changer and load your film. in the two spaces above the film type in divx4 then click apply. If this still doesn't help, install ffdshow which is available in the tools section here.

For your audio problem, look for virtual dub in the software section of the above link. They have modified versions including one which handles ac3 audio. Load your film into the modified version of Vdub. Then choose audio>full process mode. Then file>save wav. Give your wav a name and save it. You can also use goldwave to save the audio as a wav file. It is available in the tools section of this web page. Good luck.

Than you ever so much for a quick reply. The site you told me seems great its just that i can not find where you are telling me to go. You said under software section in codecs, i found the XVid fine. That did not work to solve my problem so i carried on to find the 4cc changer but i can not find it anywhere im sorry.

Any more help for me please??

  4. Hi,

Also to be a pain 4cc changer only allows 4 characters but you told me to put in Divx4 which is 5characters. I am unable to add the number on the end. Is this correct or should i put Div4 or just divx?

    Thanks SPARKS

  5. Try DIVX. Also you may want to try ffdshow as I previously said. I've never had to use it myself, but others on the board say it works great.

  6. Thanks for your help. I did not use FFD Show because that interfers with the XVID codec. FFD uses its on Xvid so it will muck it up and often the reason for green sludge etc...

I got it all sorted, not sure how just uninstalled it all and put it all back in. Didnt do anything you did but it worked

    Thanks for the time
