  1. I’ve just tried installing Huffyuv codec on WinXP Home, there were no errors reported. However it is not listed as an available codec in VirtualDub etc.

    The DLL went in the right place but I notice there’s no .ini file anywhere. I also read the .inf file and saw no mention of XP.

    I searched the forums, found one post with a similar problem, and another post indicating that it installed OK in XP Pro.

    I also have all drives partitioned as FAT32, so am wondering if there’s any real value perusing the Huffy codec given the large file sizes it produces and the FAT32 4GB limit. Should I stick with the PicVideo MJPEG codec for creating capture files for VDub processing?

    Having read the above you will have sussed out that I am a complete newbie , so advice would be highly appreciated

    I've got WinXP Home, and I have the Huffy codec. I remember when I downloaded it Windows pulled up a message saying something about it not being Windows XP approved and could create problems, and asked if I wanted to install it. I didn't, and somewhere I was able to find a copy that said it was for WinXP. I don't remember where I found it, but I'm looking. When I installed that one, everything was fine, and it works great.

  3. I've installed huffyuv on winXP pro too. I can think of no reason why it would not install on winXP home. I've installed huffyuv on win98, winME, win2k and winXP (pro) so I doubt your OS is the problem. What codecs are listed in control panels?

    Concerning the 4GB fat32 limit. You can work around this using VDubs spill system:

    Although if you're running a NT based OS and plan to work with digitial video you should really setup a NTFS partition.

  4. j1d10t and Vejita-sama,

    Thanks for the prompt replies

    I followed the links from the Tools area of this site to the Huffy codec, and I believe I selected the pre-built DLL download from here;

    http://shelob.mordor.net/dgraft/www.math.berkeley.edu/benrg/huffyuv.html

    I didn’t see any other appropriate downloads.

    Vejita-sama, as I said all my partitions are FAT32, if I format a partition as NTFS does it matter that the XP partition is still FAT32? Yes I’m and XP newbie also
