I had a really bad experience with Imation CD-R media about 8-9 months ago. I burned some of the disks and the recordable dye layer was adhered to the label material. Well, the sh!t separated from the plastic disc and with it went my data.

I took pictures of it and sent them to Imation. They asked that I send the the media and they'd replace it. I declined (replace crap with crap?) and stopped using their products.

    Of course, YMMV I suppose.

Whats wrong with Taiwanese media? Soon almost all DVDRs will be made in Taiwan, just like most CDRs are made in taiwan.

Made in Taiwan CD-R's (i.e. - CMC, etc.) are typically low quality CD-R's that are usually OK out of the box but a year or two later don't work.

I'm assuming that their DVD-R's are as bad as their CD-R's.

You can still buy made in Japan Tayio Yuden CD-R's at reasonable prices, just look for the Fuji, and occasional Memorex or Sony spindles that say they are made in Japan.

Maxell's and Sony's were both good CD-R's until they started repackaging cheap made in Taiwan CD-R's.

I never had any problems with Imation cdr. Thats what i used to use when backing up all my PSX games years ago. They still work on my PS2. I have never tried the dvd-r. I also stuck with Sony, Ritek or Verbatim. I noticed they sell SOny and Memorex(sux) at Walmart.

  9. I had never had any problems with Imation CD-Rs either.. thats why I bought them so readily.. but the DVD+Rs just weren't good for me and my trusty cendyne.
