That only applies to VCDs because they use a specified constant bitrate. When it comes to SVCDs, you just have to go by the filesize and like Sefy said, an 80 min cdr can hold about 800MB's worth of data. When you make a SVCD the first thing you should do is decide how many cds you want to use and then set your bitrate so that you can match this size. You can do this using a bitrate calculator or if you are using DVD2SVCD it basically does this for you. You typically want to shoot for between 50-55 mins per disk and I don't recommend ever going over 65 mins per disk.

Thanks everyone who helped me especially Sefy, I have just produced my first DVD rip and it looks great. It took about four days to encode but well worth it, the only thing I don't have are the extra features but that is okay, and the best thing is that the movie fits on one cd.
Great, thanks again. -

Which Windows do you have ? 98SE and above can tell you the CPU type and some can tell you the speed as well, just right click on "My Computer" and select Properties, it should be in the main screen.
AMD: K6-2 / Duron / Athlon / Athlon XP / Athlon MP
Intel: Pentium / Pentium II / Pentium III / Pentium 4 / Celeron
I'm guessing your CPU is one of those aboveEmail me for faster replies!

It is a Pentium [R] 4CPU 1.70 ghz. Should the encoding be that slow. When I encode an avi. file it doesn't take that long.

That's what I thought, do you have any explanation why it might have taken so long?

Was TMGPEnc the only active application at the time of encoding ? it is CPU intensive, so if anything else was working it could have taken CPU time from it.
