  1. Can anyone recommend a Video Signal Cleaner device that I can get in the UK.

The only one I have seen is in kit form from Maplins and my electronics knowledge is non existant!

    Thanks.

P.S. I have several VHS videos I want to back up to XVCD and I get an intermittent graying out of the picture while viewing through a Canopus ADVC-50. Is this Macrovision/copy protection?

  2. Try removing link 6 on the link sblock on the ADVC 50. Its a hidden feature but has been known to help with macrovision problems.

If that does not help then I can recommend the datavideo TBC 100. Got mine from http://www.holdan.co.uk/ Could be a bit more than you are looking to spend so hopefully the link 6 trick will do the job.

  3. Thanks for the tip, I will give it a go and report back (eventually)

As for the TBC 100, regardless of the price, I don't have any free PCI slots

  4. The TBC-100 is excellent - it doesn't actually use the PCI slot as such (only plugs into it to mount it in a PC and takes power from a spare drive power cable). I've actually got mine mounted in a plastic box with a standard 12v PSU attached to it - nowhere near a PCI slot!

I think I have one of these
It's essentially a scart lead and plugs into my dvd player and vhs recorder.
I use it so I can run my dvd's through my vcr (my house is wired so that anything running through the signal downstairs is pumped to each bedroom but the only way I can get everything viewed upstairs it is to put each signal through the VCR).
It is fundamentally designed to remove copy protection and cost me around £25-ish on ebay.
