  1. i have downloaded a divx movie that I am trying to turn into a VCD with TMPGEnc and VirtualDub. I used Virtual Dub to rip the audio, but the audio in the Divx was at 22050Hz. So i ripped a wav at that quality but then re-encoded it at CD Quality (44100Hz). So I used TMPGEnc to use the Divx avi as the video source, used the new wav as the audio, made sure the frame rate was the same as the original, went into the settings and set the video to be full screen but keep the aspect ratio, and when i set it to encode, i previewed it and the sound was not working. yet, when i open the original video in virtual dub the sound is there, and when i check the wav the sound is there too. although when i open the video in divx 2.1, it says it cant play the audio due to unkown audio source - audio tag 85? I searched the internet and couldn't find out how to fix this. im out of my league here. i'd appreciate any help. thanks.

missing tag 85 means missing MP3 codec. Maybe you already have the codec, but try to download and install it and see if it works.
Go to this link http://www.divxmovies.com/faq/ and look under section "4.4 No sound, I get no audio when playing DivX movies".

  4. I tried both of the suggestions. I downloaded the mp3 codec but it still wont play in divx with sound, it still comes back with the errror, audio tag 85. maybe i didnt install the codec right, i assume just installing it would be enough? is there any sort of configurations that have to be set, i ran the exe and i couldn't see anything out of the options that looked wrong. i even restarted my computer to see if needed to restart for the options to take effect and still nothing.

i also tried just letting the whole thing encode in TMPGEnc and opened it in Nero and there was no sound. but i just opened the original in virtual dub and it plays with sound. i am totally confused.

First, use GSpot to view the video and audio information of your divx movie. Try to render it to see if it works. Try to look at the detail section of the audio codec in GSpot to see if it really recognizes it.

When you play it in Virtualdub, yes, you hear sound, but did you play the whole movie? Well, you don't really need to. You can try to use VDub-MP3 to find if your movie has a bad frames in it. Look in other thread in this forum that I recently posted.

Another possibility is that you may have corrupted DivxPlayer. You can try completely uninstall it, and reinstall it. But try the above methods first.

Last resort, is to use System Restore if you have XP if you know for sure that your DivXPlayer works in the past. It may restore previous workable configurations. Well, this is only the last resort and may not be applicable to your problem at all, and maybe you have a corrupted movie, pretty typical during downloading process.
