I have a copy of a film that is on dvd-r. it will not play on my dvd player as its the wrong region (my player is region 2).....if i rip the dvd is there anyway i can change the region code?

interesting... I thought that by nature, dvd-r is region free (as the region coding function can only be applied to a pressed disc).
are you sure you're not trying to view a PAL disc in an NTSC player (or vice versa)?- housepig

No, an ISO image backup w/ DVD Decrypter keeps the region code (it's in the VIDEO_TS.IFO file) and some programs (IC and DVD Shrink) allow you choose region as well.
The eaist thing to do is rip the ENTIRE DVD to the HD (DVD decrypter file mode, select all files). Then open the DVD in IFOEdit, click 'make region free', generate the new IFO files, re-burn. -

Even DVD-Rs copied using DVDShrink will do this. DVDShrink automatically selects the region code of the source media, but gives you the ability to change it before the transcoding step.
So YES... it is possible to have the wrong region cod eon a DVD-ROnly 3 things are certain in life... Death, Taxes, and SPAM. Of these, only Death seems affordable!
