    ...will make a mint!

I'm sure a lot of people are tired of using DVDPatcher or SVCD2DVDMPG to patch and then unpatch SVCD video, just to get their videos on DVD.

When you think about it, it's ridiculous. Why don't any authoring programs accept 480 width resolutions? Yes, it's out-of-spec, but the software can just put up a warning dialog that the resulting DVD might not play properly on all standalones. Most DVD players that play SVCD will also play DVD-authored SVCD, so why are the software companies so reluctant?

I got very excited when the latest version of TMPGEnc DVDAuthor accepted my SVCD resolution video...I went all the way through the menu creation process, and only after clicking on the output button did it tell me that I couldn't use 480x576!

  2. Lots of DVD Authoring programs will let you author from a 480x480 source, the problem is that that resolution is NOT supported by the DVD standard, and thuse not all standalones will be able to play it.

The higher in programs (Maestro and Scenarist) require that your elementary streams conform to the DVD standard, the lower end products tend not to care at all (IFOEdit will authoring anything you give for example).

  3. Ulead DVD Workshop will create and accept Super-VideoCD formatted video:

    http://www.ulead.com/dws/runme.htm

So will Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2:

    http://www.ulead.com/dmf/runme.htm

But the real question is whether your player will play the Super-VideoCD format.

    My Apex AD1100W model will.

My GE 1106P-B model will not.

The Apex AD1100W will play anything thrown at it, including the lids of dog food cans. Never seen anything like it...

MovieFactory accepts just about anything, but will re-encode if it isn't up to spec....

I'm looking for DVD Authoring programs that will accept SVCD *without* re-encoding!

I've tried both TMPGEnc DVDAuthor and Ulead DVD MovieFactory.....

The fact that SVCD2DVDMPG exists is testament to the fact that most authoring programs *will not* accept SVCD resolution.
