I hope I'm putting this in the proper forum. I have a large number of music/concert DVDs and would like to rip individual songs from each of them and then put them on a compilation DVD. I can rip the songs just fine with DVD SHRINK but when I try dragging them from their individual folders NERO won't accept them. I know there has to be a way to do it but I'm at a loss to figure out how. Do I have to rename the .VOB, .IFO and .BUP files in a special way? I've tried different combinations of this but can't get anywhere doing it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  2. Unless you use a DVD authoring program you can't use those VOBs you're creating from DVDShrink. An authoring program will allow you to create the menus, etc. that are needed to navigate among the pieces. You may also need to rip those songs individual using DVDDecrypter rather than Shrink (but I don't know -- it's possible Shrink will continue to do the trick).

Try DVDlab -- there's a fully functional 30 day trial and pound for pound it's the best value for the money.

Okay, I've tried DVD Decrypter and it seems easier to use as far as ripping individual songs. Then I've built menus in DVD-Lab and burned the DVD. This all works fine except that for some reason the audio does not show up on some of the songs. I've tried using DVD Decrypter with and without Stream Processing. The songs are all reported as being 48.0 khz / 448 kbps / Dolby 5.1 and yet some will work and others don't. Hard As A Rock by AC/DC doesn't work while Everywhere from Fleetwood Mac works fine. I've tried using both the 2-channel and 5.1-channel files and neither of them work. I'm totally stumped!! BTW, when I play the .VOB files in Power DVD they play just fine.

Also DVD-Lab doesn't seem to accept DTS because its frequency is 32.0 khz and it wants 48.0 khz. Is there a way to change the frequency of the DTS files?

  4. This is pretty easiy to do, here is how:
    1) use SmartRipper and select the chapters you want, use the option that create one VOB per chapter (i.e. per song)
    2) next follow the guide on how to create DVD from VOB trailers in this forum (using IFOEdit)
    3) you will end up with a DVD where each chapter is a song automatically although you cannot create menu with IFOEdit.

  5. I suspect the audio is there all right, you just have the primary stream as DTS and therefore can't hear it where you're playing it. Try using the remote control of your standalone player and switching audio -- it may be just fine.

But ktwin's idea might be better for you if you want DTS -- DVDLab can embed the DTS files but it's really more for authoring your own DVDs and not rip... um, backing up others.

Okay, I'm getting closer. The reason I like to use DVD SHRINK to take the songs off the DVD is that I have better control over the exact amount of the chapter I want to extract. This way I can edit out some of the crowd noise, etc. from the beginning and end of the music selection.

I've found that DVD-Lab for some reason won't give me the audio on some of the songs. Still haven't figured out why but I do get the audio when I burn with NERO. The reason I'd like to use DVD-Lab is that I can put a number of songs on the DVD by appointing a different movie for each song and then chain them together. I'd also like to have menus but I can live without them - for now anyway - if I have to.

I don't know how to put more than one song in a list to do the burning with NERO. Can anyone tell me how to go about it? I've tried changing the numbers from VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_2.VOB and so on and just adding them to the compilation window but this doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

And I'm not giving up on getting menus to work at some time in the future so any comments on that would also be appreciated.

With DVDlab make sure all the audio is the same type.
    i.e. all ac3 at 448, or whatever.
DVDlab does not like mixed audio ie pcm and mpg and ac3 mixed.
If they do not match maybe you can use besweet or simular to re-encode.

    Thanks, guys.

The NeoDVD works great...BUT... it puts the selections in the menu as titles and I would like to have them as chapters so that they will play consecutively just like a CD instead of being kicked back to the menu after each song plays. Is there a way to get around this? I'm getting close to what I want but not quite there yet. Thanks for helping.

BTW, ASB, when I tried to use DVD-Lab certain selections didn't have sound even if it was the only selection I was burning as a test. Thank God for rewritable media. This could cost a guy a fortune without it.
