  1. I swapped out my digital cable box for one with an S-VIDEO output. I now have monster cables with s-video running out from digital cable box into "LINE 1" on my E30. Quality is noticeably better, but still not as crisp and clean as the normal antennae broadcast picture.

Does anyone know if/why I need the coax coming into the E30 from the digital cable box and then back out to the tv coax input? I am thinking of just running the coax from the digital cable box directly into my tv. I can still view and record the tv signal on my E30 through the "LINE 1" input. So - my question is, why have the extra connection/bypass by running the cable coax into the E30 in and back out to the tv? It seems to work just fine without it when I removed it from the E30 and just let it go into the TV coax input.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. I have a simialr setup myself Pat. However I'm using an Anolog Coax Cable, directly into the HS2, one out of the HS2 into my TV's VIDEO 1 (It's a Sony TV) and a Coax into the main Tuner.

Here's what I've learned, apparently if the Coax Cable isn't picking up any "Singal" as was the case when CBS went out, the HS2/TV get's a bit angry with me and puts upa message along the lines of "Carrier Singal lost, please check cables" or something to that extent. If I Disconnect the Coax cable, I can play everything through the HS2 and possibly record haven't tried) but I can't use the "Main" Channel 3/4 input on the TV which means you HAVE to watch everything through the HS2, this in turn, means your unit is running needlessly as cable box, or in your case, a second cable box when it's not nessecary.

Now if I read your post correctly, you're using a Digital Cable Box with S-VIDEO output to the TV, and an Antenna (Rabbit Ears or Rooftop? Doesn't matter just curious) in tandem. The Digital Cable Box will gicve you all your "Extra" Channels but to pick up anything on Broadcast, you need that dreaded Coaxial Cable connected as well, pullit out and you should lose channels 2-13, on Anolog Cable this isn't a problem, it's when you're using Digital Cale that it's bad, and you need two connections, one for broadcast and one for Cable, I have another setup downstairs like this, because I had to get a Descrambler form the cable company for premium channels, sadly, it doesn't work with my VCR Remote so I have to run it into the TV AND into the VCR, your E30 Problem could be similar.

My guess is thisis like a VHF/UHF Antenna problem, where if you had VHF you got channels 2-13 and UHF gave you everything above, the Coax cable is giving you 2-13 the S-Vid is giving yu everything else, not sure, but I think that's it, because I know when the Coax Cable is loose or has gone bad, as son as I switch to VIDEO 1, your LINE 1 is probably the same thing, I bring VIDEO 1 in via te DMR-HS2's LINE-1 as you do with the E30 for recording, but if I want to keep the HS2 turned off and just use the TV, I need the Coax cable. I hope that made sense, but it's the mbest I can think of considering I have a simialr set up, and as I've said, apparently I need the Coax cable for the Broadcast signals.
