Cyberhome 402 DVD+R Problems
After searching the forum, it is interesting to find so many different problems. I have had no problems with VCD's, SVCD's with picture or sound problems. It will play DVD+/RW's with no problems. The MP3 and JPG's play fine as well. The problem I am having is playing DVD+/R's. I have used different media and different programs to burn with NO success.![]()
According to their tech support, here is the response I got when asking about the DVD+/R problems. I received this yesterday, 07/07/03.
"We regret that the DVD 402 player is not compatible with DVD+R media but it is compatible with all the others." Tom![]()
I was surprised with the response, since everything you find on the 402 says it will.
Like others have reported, the link, <http://freehost04.websamba.com:81/disneyresort/index.htm> is no longer valid and all I have been able to find is the European version, which someone has stated that it would not work with the U.S. versions.
I am including the following info from the version option of the setup when accessing by the following; I am assuming these reflect the firmware loaded.
Open tray, then setup, then 1,3,6,9 then < 3 times and > once. Under the new option, Version.
Sub-Ver 00.00.DE.09
Version 00.00.06.02
8032 00.00.06.02
Servo 00.00.DD.08
Risc 20.01.06.02
Dsp 01.03.02.01
Since a lot of users report no problems with the DVD+/R, I am asking, is there anyone that has a U.S. version of the 402 that will play DVD+/R's? If so, what did you do to get it work? How do the above version numbers compare? And lastly, does anyone know of a firmware upgrade for the U.S. version of the 402? If one is available, can it be loaded on this site for everyone's access and use or possibly emailed.
Thank you in advance and if I can be of any help, please ask.

I have no problem with DVD-R discs on my Cyberhome (CH-DVD 500 model) unless it was done on a Panny stand alone. Doesn't like those.
I've tried PAL DVD+RW discs that a friend made for me and they play back great (and convert well to NTSC with the Cyberhome's built-in PAL to NTSC conversion abilities).
Sorry but I've never been able to try DVD+R
It's not my format of choice and the only reason I have those DVD+RW discs is because my friend (who owns very rare movies on VHS that haven't come out in any other format) was stupid enough (god bless him) to buy a Philips stand alone DVD+R/RW recorder.

P.S.
I have found that the Panny stand alone DVD-R discs will work in my Cyberhome but only if the discs are of very high quality such as true Maxell or Fuji or the original Samsung BeAll discs (haven't tried the newer BeAll only branded discs yet)."The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci
