  1. Hi,

I have been using FFMpegX to encode a short DV movie to SVCD. The output has lots of artifacts, particularly horizontal streaking on motion shots.

I did check the denoise and deinterlace selections as suggested in the notes, but that did not help much. Encoding other sources (eg divx) does not produce these artifacts.

Any suggestions on how I can make my little DV movie look nicer in SVCD?

    Thanks very much.

  2. Is it a .dv file or a .mov file?

  3. The file is dv footage. It is a dv stream saved from Final Cut Pro with a .mov extension.

  4. Use the quicktime deinterlacer instead of ffmpegX deinterlace options (info panel, "high quality", "single field", "save").

  5. Just thought I would give an update. I tried this suggestions (opened in quicktime and checked High-Quality and Single-field and saved as self-contained). This made the DV stream HUGE and I felt that was a good thing. I still got lines and this time I got yuv color errors too.

I am in the middle of switching computers (just got a CUBE!! finally a G4!, just when the G5's hit )

Hopefully in the next couple of days I can try to fiddle some more. I am thinking of encoding it to Divx first and then to SVCD? This is a short film that I show in a theatre before I stage show I perform weekly, so I am keen to get the quality up).

    I'll let you know.
