  1. I have a mintek 1600 that is 6 months old that is having problems. I hope someone here may be able to help. Basiclaly what happens is that the tray will not stay closed so the DVD can play. When I turn it on and wait for a bit the tray will come out. I can put in a DVD and close it by hand or with the button but it comes back out again after maybe 5 -10 seconds. I don't think that the DVD even spins up. It does the same thing without a DVD.
I can use the open/close button to both open and close the tray so it does not seem that the button is stuck or the problem.
Mintek wants $45 plus shipping to replace it. (better to go get a new one)
but I would like to avoid it. I feel I am experienced in electronics enough to crack the case to try to find something wrong but am hoping someone may know where to start

    Thanks in advance

    Clean it.
Swab the lens with IPA (IsoPropyl alcohol) and a Qtip.
Can of air to blow out insides.
Check the mechanics, not the electronics.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

You can see the lens to clean it with the door open? I didn't know that.

You're damn right! That's nuts -- I paid about $45 for my Mintek 1600 in the first place....

I woulnd't think so. Dismantle it. Take out the 4-6 screws on top and open it up.
