Freeware: A program you download and are able to use to full capacity with no restrictions. The program costs no money to use, thus the term 'free' is included in the name. Typically freeware titles offer little support, but often times spawn numerous other spinoff programs to be coded.
Shareware: A program that you can download, but are limited in some fashion. Typically a time limit is given for usage, or you can not save, or the program only does part of what it can do as a whole. To unlock these features you must a fee to the designer. The term 'share' is used because you are free to distribute to anyone, but they'll have to register the software for full use as well.
