Hi can anybody help I have downloaded nero demo (the new version) 5.10 I always in the past just go to nero express to copy my dvd's but this time I find that it has put nero image drive on my pc and I cannot get round it, it has also appeared in my control panel, now when I come to copy it does not find my pioneer dvd writer, can some one tell me how to get rid of this image drive from my control panel , so that I can just use nero express by itself

When you installed Nero, was there a point when it asked what type of install it was to do, "Typical" - "Custom"?

    If yes:

I would try uninstalling Nero. Possibly going through regedit if you are brave and removing any Nero reference.

Of course if you are using WinXP, just do a system restore, restore it at the point before you installed Nero.

Then reinstall it again and do a "Custom" install and deselect the features you do not want.

After you click on what function you want to perform - i.e. copy entire disc - it should show you what source drive and destination drive it is going to use. There are drop down arrows to the right which will allow you to switch to your preferred drive.

  4. not sure if this is the problem, but at least w/ older versions of nero...there were unique registration #'s for each brand...so if you have a HP burner and entered in the registration # for Sony burners, then it won't be able to see your HP burner.....

He said clearly he downloaded it
The download version works with all drives that NERO RECOGNIZES
It sounds like nero doesn't recognize your brand of drive..like poopyhead said,
but for the reason that eludes us.
Go to the recorder pull down in NERO to confirm that only a
VIRTUAL IMAGE MAKING DEVICE is recognixzed..
and check your drive model # on NERO SITE

open the c:\program files\ahead\nero folder and install the nero aspi drivers or update aspi from the adaptec site this may cure your problem if not then you have done something wrong during install. Try unistalling and reinstalling nero and make sure you untick the nero virtual drive thingy option, alternatively if you have the virtual drive installed go to control panel, select system then click the device manager tab select cd rom drives then click on the nero drive and click properties and select a reserved value for the drive .. eg: if the nero drive is d: and you have 2 other cdrom drives change the reserved value to f: when you restart your computer the nero drive will be f: and your other drives will be as they were before you installed nero eg: d: and e:

the above method of changing drive letters is also useful for those that have the clone cd/dvd virtual drive installed on their machines ... installing a virtual drive pushes your other cd rom drives up one drive letter eg: if your cd rom drive was d: it becomes e: and your burning program fails to recognise it, just change the reserved value for the virtual drive to that of the last cd rom drive on your system and restart your computer, the virtual drive becomes the last drive and all other drives are returned to their normal possitions

Hi I don't understand what you are refering to when you say virtual drive how do I know if I have that . all that shows up in device manager are hard drive c....hard drive d.....dvdrom e.......dvd burner........f... pioneer 104.......have uninstalled and reinstalled and all that shows up in nero express when I try to copy is ..........from....memorex e........to image recorder f. If I try to change it to the pioneer dvd it only takes me to dvcd writer not to dvd........I have not had this problem with my previous version all I did was change to dvd and off it went..now even if I went to an other version I still get the same responce.....solution is DONT DOWNLOAD ANY DEMO'S from the NERO WEBSITE.
I have given up with nero and will be looking for some other software.............I would not recommend anyone to download a demo unless they want this hassle, been days trying to sort it out, as a final effort I may try what you suggest if I can work out where the virtual drive is , when I check nero's info tool it finds both of my drives but cannot burn anything...........Mick

I have Nero 5, and I haven't used it for a while. I recently did a clean re-install of xp on my system and now I installed Nero again. When I try to burn a vcd, Nero is only letting me use the image recorder. I used to be able to use the cd drive, but now I can't. I don't know what I am doing or not doing, but I need help. Please..

    Peace,

upgrade to a later version of nero or go to the nero homepge and download nero's aspi drivers and install them ... also go to adptecs site and get the lastest adaptec aspi drivers ...(aspi version 4.7.2) get them here

    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/search/Search.do?language=English+US&support=support&queryText=aspi

better still go buy record now max .... its a 1000 times better than nero and for around £26.00 gbp its well worth it and it doesnt need aspi drivers to be installed to use it.

NERO versions PRE 6.3 (so anything 6.0 and earlier) get totally confused with multi format drives (DVDrw's that do both + and - standards plus cd's) and default the drive to a CDrw...so when you want to do DVD work Nero presents the IMAGE DRIVE as the only option.

Ensure you are using NERO 6.3 or later.

You can check the ASPI (NERO has its own) is working correctly (and other probs) with the NERO INFO TOOL found in the NERO TOOL KIT.

Wow, this is an old thread..but i suppose if you dont know then you dont know.

That is so untrue. I'm looking at my LG4040B right now with Win XP Pro and it says it is a DVD-RAM drive. I use Nero 5.5.10.54 and it works flawlessly. I also have a Pioneer A05 hooked up on another channel and Win XP says it is a DVD-R drive. Don't believe everything from this board...

I just checked Nero. It also says the drives are a DVD-RAM and a DVD-R. So much for using the later versions, eh?

Well thats good for you, I too have 4040B and my NERO 5.10.~ would NOT reconize it so I installed NERO 6.0 (early December last year)...i had to wait until Christmas eve to get the fix THAT NERO THEMSELVES posted as the answer to multi format DVDrws.

Mebbe your just lucky..unlike 99.99999999% of everyone else eh OLDFART?

Or maybe you don't know what you're doing, eh? I've set these things up on numerous systems running Win 98, 98SE and XP (various flavours). If you're having problems then it's you and your equipment. There is a reason I use the Oldfart name...I'm starting to "get up there" and I've been assembling computers since the old Apple II days. If anything, I've seen more complaints for Nero not working or not recognizing drives for the newer post 6.0 version than for the earlier one...

Started on a ZX81 meself in '82 and worked up thru a c64 / c128...so I'm no noobie either.......40 years old of which 20 odd years computer based........oh and self taught........remember machine code, 5 1/4 " floppies etc....remember when Microsoft was just a fledging...Apples came in boxes?

Setting up systems?... yeh I've only done one (hundred +...or more...)

As for me and my equipment, I was asked to look at 9 DVDRWs in JANUARY alone (all multi format) sorted by upgrading to NERO 6.3 or did I just dream it?...........nope spent the cash on an mpeg4 enabled DVD player.....didnt even cost me a penny.

Brother, I salute you! I remember the old punch card days in High School and the reams of paper you would get if you "accidently" created a repeating loop in your programs. Wasn't that fun??
