There is a utility called "AVI Info", you could try loading the problem file into that, it will tell you the stats of the AVI file and what Codec you need for it and if the codec is installed or not.

It will also alert you if your file is NOT an AVI file.

  3. Well I have Gspot and it told me not an avi file. I was told to add as an extension avi which I did but I dont think that adding to the title .avi would change much! Anyway I was wondering where I should place all those codecs...Should I download them and let them as an independent program file or should I download them all under my divx player file??? I wonder if thats part of the problem?
    Thanks in advance!

I just download a codec and install i t, letting it go where it wants to...
If it wants a folder, I tell it to go in "Program Files".
