  1. I've been buying 3 packs of Memorex DVD-R media from Wal-mart for $9.99 (Canadian). The earlier Memorex I purchased were made by Prodisc (reported by DVDInfo) and worked well in my burner (Pioneer A05) and players (Pioneer DV333 and Norcent DP300). The only problem I had was if I filled the DVD-R near to capacity but if I was under capacity by200-300 megs, it was fine. The problem was the video would beakup or freeze near the end...

The newer Memorex DVD-R media is made by CMC which I have yet to burn to....

Which Memorex media would the readers here recommend, the Prodisc or CMC ?

PS: I did read the media reviews but there were not alot of reviews for these two Memorex types....

    Thanks

I know this doesn't answer your question per se. But, you are paying over $3 a piece for junk media This is why the disc is freezing at the end.

Best Buy is selling TDK at $2 each. You must buy more than three, but it's top of the line media.

I would either go with 85 cent ACCU discs, or the $2 TDK. But paying $3 for junk is just silly.

Then again, that's just my opinion

I gave my opinion on the Memorex discs I sampled in another thread. I burned them to about 4.36 Gigs, and encountered skips and one second freeze ups, on all the discs I burned.(DVDdecrypter and Nero were used) I would suggest to avoid the Memorex brand. Regardless of who manufactured the discs. But for the record I believe the ones I used were manufactured by Prodisc. They're are better DVD-R media out there at a better price. If in Canada, you can order media through www.CanadaComputers.com or www.Sonnam.com for a better price than over $3.00 for substandard discs.

Robert thanks for the urls...I checked out both and it seems neither one offers a good disc at the price of the Wal-mart DVD-Rs unless you want Princos...

    dafoe,

TDK are excellent media BUT I live in Canada and owning a 1960 Corvette I purchase alot of stuff from the USA...no matter if it's antique car parts, books from Amazon or computer stuff, all US vendors insist on shipping to Canada via UPS whom charge an exoberant brokerage fee...

In May I purchased Vue D'Epsrit (raytracing software like Bryce) from the USA at $99.00 + 20.00 (shipping) for a total of $120.00 USA....UPS charged me a brokerage fee of $60.00 !

I love USA prices and vendors, I do not like UPS...I inquired on the possibility of other options (Fed-Ex, USPS, etc) and most vendors respond UPS is my only option....

That's if you think Memorex are better than Princos! I don't. I agree that both store's online selections vary with demand. Several brands are sold out, right now. But they usually carry Optodiscs(okay discs) for under $2.00, Maxell's for $2.50(not recommended by me, but others here like them)and Samsung Be-alls (highly recommended) for $2.00 when in stock.

  7. Thanks very much I'll bookmark the urls and check 'em out...
Right now I bought a 5 pack of Pine DVD-Rs for $18.00 from Futureshop. They are silver topped and have no protective layer. DVDInfo identifies them as Maxell...

    Cheers
