    just got my sony 510au dvd writer. for the past year or so i have been transferring my home movies to CD as a VCD. can i take these and write to dvd? yes i know they are mepg1 files and dvds are mpeg2s (vobs) but was wondering if there was an easy way since i already have some movies (about 50) on cds (vcd format).

    Yes, you can put MPEG1 (VCD standard) on a DVD. The VCD standard is a valid DVD resolution. Check out the DVD specs (under DVDR) on the left, and you can also click here: https://www.videohelp.com/vcddvdr.htm

    ok thanks for that. now i just burned my first VCD with the sony writer and the menu came out great but that was all that came out. these files were left on computer for this specific test.. ie i wrote the same file with old CD/RW writer and they played just fine in dvd player.. now using the new sony they did not.. am i missing something?

  6. No, You can't burn as a VCD..... On DVD

    You must take the VCDs, extract the Mpeg1, convert the audio to 48Khz and then author as a DVD. That will work.

    Good Luck, Look at the guide on this site as to how to extract and convert the audio. I personally have used Ulead Movie Factory 2 and TMPGenc DVD Author program with VCDs converted as per the guide form this site with success.
