  1. Hi,

Has anyone experienced issues with DVD's authored with IFOedit? I am converting VHS to DVD and have tested using 3 different DVD players (Pioneer DV-250, Philips DVD825 and Sony NS325). The only player that will play a disc authored by IFOedit is the Pioneer. Even the Sony, which is a newer model, balks at the disc. I have tried 4 different authoring progs:

    IFOedit
    Ulead DVD Movie Factory
    SpruceUp
    DVD-lab

The Philips will ONLY play discs that were authored with Ulead (and apparently only at 29.97, not 24 with a 2:3 pulldown), but it is a dinosaur anyway that barely plays professional discs without the occasional crash, so any DVD-R that I can get to play in it is gravy.

The Pioneer and the Sony will pretty much play anything except for the Sony which doesn't like IFOedit discs, but the Sony will play discs that have almost reached maximum capacity, whereas the Pioneer chokes on discs after 4gb.

I got to tell you, this incompatibility crap is so annoying that it makes me want to stick with VHS for awhile! At least with VHS, you don't have to be concerned whether or not VHS media A will play in either VHS player A or B...it always plays, it may not look as good as DVD, but at least it's consistent and dependable.

Ok, rant complete. Yes, I do have issues... :)

Getting back to my original question, anyone have problems with IFOedit and standalones?

  2. First time I've heard of any problems. I've been able to play discs on my PSX2, Cyberhome 500, my old Apex 600, my old roommate's sony, and my new roommates Apex 1200.

HOWEVER, that was when I first got into authoring/burning. These days I author with DVD Maestro and burn with Imgtools/DVD decyrpter. But IIRC I played IFOEdit authored disc on all those setups.
