    Can anybody recommend any software for converting avi file to mpeg?

    The reason been I have always used tmpge but just recently i have been having mega problems with several files with the dubbing going out after so long and also having no picture. In both counts the original avi file is perfect. But the mpeg is ok untill the screen goes funny for a split second and thats when the problem starts.

    Please note I would prefer the software to be freeware but if its a good program I dont mind purchasing it

    I think Video Studio 6 is a good program. Try the trail version.

    check in the Tools section at left, under Video Encoders.

    the only freeware mpeg encoder I know of (aside from the mpeg1 in TMPGenc) is BBMPEG.
