and how do you go about making a VCD from a .tar file. Tell me that and I might be able to tell you what to change to make an SVCD instead.

  3. alright. I use winrar. first I click the file, and there is one folder, called cd1 or cd2 (depending on what part I used). in the cd1 folder, I extract the file (for this example lets use spaceballs) spaceballs.r01. then I extract the .bin and the .cue file from it, and I use nero to burn the .cue, blah blah blah. However, when I try an svcd, there is no folder called cd1 or cd2. it is only the spaceballssvcd.rar, spaceballssvcd.r00 etc. there is also an .sfv file in there too. but when I try to extract the .bin or the .vue file from the file, an error message comes up saying "please put spaceballssvcd.r02 in the drive" (this would be when I try to extract from .r01). and it wont let me extract the .bin or the .cue

  4. Ok, lets see if we can help here, there seems to be a basic misunderstanding of what a .tar file is.

.tar is an archive format (originally from the unix world and I believe it originates from Tape ARchive). It is not a compression format. It seems you have been getting (somehow) CD images, in bin and cue format. So the .tar archive format has, in this case, been used to simply keep the bin and cue files together for transportation (downloading).

It looks like the latest one you have is slightly different. In this case the .tar format has been used to keep together the many parts of a multipart winrar archive. (the .rar, .r01, .r02 etc). So extract all these files from the .tar to a folder on your PC. Close Winrar. Now double click on the .rar file and winrar should start and list the files contained in the multipart archive as usual. Click extract and navigate to the path where you want the output files saved and click OK. It should now extract the files from the archive and leav you with your .bin and .cue (or whatever) for you to burn to CD.

Does this make sense? Does it help or have I misunderstood the situation completley
