    Hi,

I live in the UK and currently have a NTL Digital box which I am due to cease at the end of the month. The box has only Composite outputs, and seeing as I would like to capture at the best possible quality I dont think this is sufficient to my needs.

I will be ordering Sky Digital shortly, and have contacted Sky to ask whether or not their boxes have a S-Video output to be told that standard installation boxes do not, and that were I to get SVideo I would need to sign up for Sky Plus which is £10 a month more and costs an initial outlay of £200 for a recordable box with SVideo out.

Is there anyone who can suggest a way for me to be able to capture via S-Video (as I beleive Im right in thinking this is the best source for TV capture) without having to buy into Sky Plus?

    Regards

I think what's more important than the theories of S-video or composite video quality and captures is the broadcast quality.
Just like when I'm brainwashed into wanting to buy a HDTV, yet there's two channels that broadcast the signal to support it.

I could personally think of better ways to save that money rather than spend that much on the option of S-video output on the chance that your captures might produce a slightly better quality..Step back from the brink and as yourself if it's worth it man!!!!!
Unfortunately you truly won't know until you've tried it.. Isn't there any way to downgrade to the composite video without paying the penalty to give it a try??

  3. marcus2704, most (if not all) Sky boxes can output RGB. Your capture device probably doesn't have an RGB input, but you can get RGB to S Video converters for a reasonable price.

This is just one example of such a device: http://www.rgbtosvideo.com/
