I have a couple of .avi files which I would like to create VCDs.
    1. since the file is > 750MB, how can I spilt the file into 2. Is there a similar tool like TMPEGenc to spilt the avi file?
    2. If I create a VCD using the avi files, will it work?

    Thanks
    Ravi

Why would you split the AVI?
The size of the AVI has no relation to the size of the VCD mpeg size (well, at least not more than very little...)
    1) Splitting an AVI file is most easily accomplished with VirtualDub.
    2) How could anyone tell? Is it possible? Yes. Will you succeed? There's only one way to find out...

To help you on the way, there are plenty of guides on AVI to VCD under CONVERT left.

  3. The size of the AVI file is irrelevant to the final size of the mpeg file you create for VCD. VCD compliant mpegs are approx 10MB/min so you can fit approx 80 minutes of VCD onto a 700MB/80min cdr.

If the movie length is greater than 80 min you can split it over 2 discs. Use TMPGEnc to encode your avi file to mpeg then use TMPGEnc merge and cut tools to split it in half.

Another option you have is to create non compliant mpeg files with a lower bitrate and create an XVCD that will fit on one disc, I personally prefer standard VCD though.

You need to open the avi file in vdub to check if it has VBR audio if it does you need to uncompress it to a wav file and use that as the audio source in TMPGEnc or you will find that you have audio sync problems.

See the how to convert guides for more detailed instructions on using TMPGEnc and vdub

  6. This web site has tons of guides explaining how to do this.

Use VCDEasy to make a bin/cue from the mpeg

Click on the Guides link, this topic is covered in the guides.

TMPGEnc to split, check the Edit section of this site.

You can burn with Nero as well as VCDEasy, check the Author section.
