Convert AVI to VCD format

Hi,

Any suggestion on a better tool to convert AVI movie to VCD format?

Better than waht? I normally use TMPGEnc Plus or Video Studio 6.

I use VirtualDub -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy. In my opinion, The Three Musketeers of AVI to (S)VCD conversion.
Add to that a dash of audio editing (like WavWorks and/or Goldwave) and AVIFrate, and there's almost no AVI that can't be converted to (S)VCD.

That's completely dependent on:

• Your computer specs (Which would help you and everyone else if you filled in... )
  What encoder you're using (MainConcept is the fastest I've used, TMPGEnc and Panasonic the slowest)
  What settings you use in the encoder (motion search, CBR/VBR, # of passes...)

The question is usualy countered with "How long is a rope?".
My system, using TMPGEnc and 2 pass VBR, high motion search precision, spends about movie length x 2.5 to encode AVI to mpeg2.
Add to that some manual work time fixing bad frames, frame rates, extracting audio, fixing sync problems...

My AVI file is 750Mb and can't fit into a 700Mb CD, I tried to use
VirtualDub to split the AVI into two smaller file but unsuccessful. Has anyone tried this before? how is it done?

The capacity of a 700 MEGA BYTE cd is 800 MEGA BYTES of VCD fare

NO THIS IS NOT A MISPRINT

You can put 800 megabytes (well 799 really) on a 700MEGABYTE CD-R if you use the VCD format

This info used to be in the VCD guide but is now MISSING

...and even more important - the size of the AVI has no relation to the size of the mpeg produced when creating a (S)VCD. Only things that govern the size of the mpeg is length (in time) and bit rate used when encoding. Size of source material has nothing to do with it.
