  1. I just got done burning my first Apple DVD-R , I am using th A A04 pioneer burner using Prassi Primo DVD to burn. Well It burned at 2X, and when I put it in my PS2 to test it out, it worked like a champ. Well until the last 2 chapters of the disc. It just froze, and said unable to read disc. So I went to my Pioneer 343 set-top player, and sure enough its stuck at the same spot.

I know Apple media is actually Memorex, but has anyone else had this problem? I am getting ready to try to burn 1X , and see if the problem occurs again. This is the first time I have had this problem with this file. I have burned these DVD folders with Verbatim and had no problems.

So far Apple media is not doing well for me.

    0 for 1 right now.

Actually 2x apple media should be Maxell, I'm surprised your having problems with it. In general its great stuff. Then again the PS2 can be rather "picky" so maybe you should try 1x and see if it helps.

    The media is fine.

A PS2 is NOT a real DVD player. Playing movies was an afterthought, a bonus feature. It stutters with burns in general. Get a real player. Sorry. That thing was made for video games. Some of them work, some of them don't. It's a craps shoot with PS2.

  4. The First Apple DVD-R I used was bad. I tried it on my Pioneer 343 player also and still bad. This player plays even the cheapest ritek DVD's out there.

I Burned my second DVD, this time I used the 1X speed, and the DVD plays fine on my PS2 and the Pioneer 343 player. Same Folders were burned, and it plays flawlessly through the whole disc.

I will probably just burn all my Apple DVD-Rs at 1X, too avoid a costly coaster.

Again, it's not the media. It's on your end. I've burned Apple at 2x (now 4x) since 2001 without flaw.

The disc may have been dirty. Check before burning.

The drive may be dirty or need a firmware flash (corrupted somehow). Clean it with IsoPropyl Alcohol (IPA- a rubbing alcohol from the drugstore - but ONLY IPA) and a cotton swab (Q-tip). Or update the drive.

  7. The Media was Bad. Clean Disc. I just burned my third disc at 2X in my A05, and so far so good. I am sure that the first disc was just a fluke.

And don't hit the machine or bump your desk while burning. That was the reason I had my first coaster - I nailed it with my leg getting up. Knocked the disc off balance. Subwoofers in the same room can do the same with vibration-caused errors.

  9. I had lots of trouble burning dvd's at first on my powermac G4 using toast. Then I just connected the external hard drive with the dvd movie on it to my powerbook G4, and everything burned perfectly. I used an external firewire pioneer dvd-rw dvr-105. I was using the apple dvd-r 2x, and I burned on 1x using toast titanium. It works perfectly on my PS2. I think it was because my procesor was too small on the powermac. The processor on my laptop has a 550(approx.) processor.
