  1. Hello,

I have from a friend the Pearl Harbor VCDs, and with the freindly fact, that it is saved in *.dat.

So my qustion is, where and HOW can I produce such files,

as first of all, the *.dat file is smaller than mpg and I think it is a better quality.

So, where can I make from my *2dv (from DVD2AVI) or dirctly from mpg files such *.dat files??

And, only for interesting, for what stands DAT??

    Thanks, Math

VCD *.dat and .mpg is almost the same. Burn a .mpg as VCD and you will end with a .dat.
The dvd2avi project (d2v) is a reference file to encode the .vob to .mpg or whatever.

you can convert .dat to .mpg with vcd cutter
You know what ? juat copy the .dat file to your harddisk and rename it to .mpg and VOILA,you're back in business. Amazingly you can burn the renamed file to vcd.I've tried it with Nero anyway

  4. The DAT file is not quite the same as a VCD compliant MPEG file. You should always convert it back to standard MPEG (i.e., with VCDGEAR) before doing anything with it.

Nero can directly use a "DAT" file to burn a VCD -- thus renaming it to ".mpg" is irrelevant. However, it is unclear how many other proggies will handle a DAT file masquerading as an MPEG.

You can also convert a .mpg --> .dat (with VCDGear), but there is absolutely no point of doing this. When you author a VCD and burn it, the source mpeg file will automatically have the extension of .dat on the actual burnt disc.
