  1. i have a mintek dvd 1600 model.

    it can play dvd-r.

i use princo, and verbatim, the movies i backed up skipped. when i made them few months ago/last month, i played them on my dvd player, and it worked flawlessly.

now my dvd-r movies skip like hell. they only skip on the intro, when i say intro, i'm not talking about the movie intro, i am talking about the intro that shows:

    "FBI Warning"
"what company distributed the dvd movie, whether it was Pioneer, Miramax Newline, Tristar, Columbia"
    "Dolby Digital intro"
    "and etc."

All of those skips when made into dvd-r.

HOWEVER, once i get past those "intro" that i just have listed, it plays it fine. but for the most part even the featurettes such as making the movie featurette skips.

when i bought a real dvd movie, i played it at home, it skipped a lot, so i bought a CD/DVD lens cleaner, it fixed the problem. the real dvd movies i have dont skip anymore. They seem to work fine.

The question is, just last month when i made my dvd movies into dvd-r movies, it played flawlessly, it even played all the features with no skip.
now they are skipping out on me.

I'm just waiting for another CD/DVD lens cleaner that i ordered, since the last one i bought, the brush seems crappy, maye it wasnt able to get rid of the dust entirely so that it can play dvd-r flawlessly.

overall, real dvd movies dont skip after using cd/dvd lens cleaner
dvd-r movies skip after a few months from when they were made.

    Dirt/scratches.
Crap player (not the brand, just yours).
    Bad media.

And those cleaners are useless. Open the player and swab the lens with IPA (IsoPropyl Alcohol) using a cotton swap (Q-tip). Blow the innards out with a can of air. Should be fine now. If not, the disc is at fault or the player is just shot. Try media on another player (NOT a computer DVD-ROM).

  3. dirt and sratches are probably not the issue, i make sure my dvd's are clean.

bad dvd player? maybe, but i bought mintek because it was the best for its price range. and when i got it, it played everything because i tested it just in case.

bad media? maybe that is the issue, but i'll find out soon enough when i try it on my friends dvd player.

Mintek is fine. I mean yours. That one machine, not all machines.

  5. is it safe to use a q tip? if so, i may need unscrew the bolts just to be able to open up my dvd player so i can swab the lens coz i wont be able to reach the lens without opening it up.

and i have the IPA solution that you mentioned, came with my cheap cd lens cleaner i bought in ebay, man that cd lens brush was stiff as hell when i opened the cd lens package.

i had to put a drop of the IPA on the brush and rub it to unstiffen it up.

i bought another different brand of cd/dvd lens cleaner in ebay, it might come in next week, i hope its a good kind.

    thnx for your input.

Qtips fine. Do it myself. Works great.

eBay huh? You can buy a whole bottle of that IPA (aka most rubbing alcohols) for about 50 cents per bottle at the local drug store. Qtips are found in the house of any sanitary person. Wish I could have saved you the bucks it cost you to buy the eBay stuff!

  7. one thing unanswered, what did you use to burn the dvd-rs with.
i find most programmes are quite poor except copytoDVD,and dvd2one,and dvd decrypter.
NERO cant seem to get past teh 3.8-4gig mark, without audio popping and skipping sections of whatevers on the DVD.
after stopping using nero and a couple of other bits of software,i havent had any more problems, all the discs are perfect.
they play no problems at all in ALL players ive tried,
    ps2,LG,samsung player,pioneer,xbox,schneider 1003/857,pacific 1002,alba 119/114.PC.
and on most of my friends players too.
try changing the software,or burn at a slower speed.

    That's the cheap media's fault, not Nero's.

  9. Actually I had a problem like that...when I first started burning disks, everything was fine and dandy, but then everything started to skip...even my new burns near the end. I figured it was the loader going so I replaced it with a toshiba dvd-rom...now there are no more skips. So it probably could be your loader going haywire, rather than the disks going bad. I believe that this seems to happen on the "cheaper" brands/players on the market more often than not.

  11. i had the sticker of warranty attached to the dvd player so that if i break it, the warranty is void.

anyways i broke the sticker, to open the dvd player up.

i used dvd lens cleaner, but they failed on me, the dvd-r movies still skipped.

after i opened the dvd player i cleaned the lens with a cotton swab as mentioned by one of the posters here, and and blew off some dusts.

now my dvd-r movies plays fine.

i guess it wasnt my dvd-r that is the problem but the dvd player.

It really sounded like a media problem.

On bad media no player can read the disc. On low/mid grade media only some players can read it. The highest quality media will playback perfect on all supported players.

My Apex 5131 will play Princo all the way to the end. Apex 500ad will hard lock at the 4 gig mark. Both will play other media perfect.

Be carefull with Q-tips, or cotton on a lens. The fibers can scratch it. Should use a lent free cloth.

Heat and labels have been known to cause these problems too.
